News Unfit to Print – Week 23

Forty-six percent of the 1,014 adults surveyed March 4 to 7 described current U.S. environmental conditions as excellent or good.
Im not sure what this says more about Americans; either we are more complacent with our role in polluting the world, or we’re more gullible than I thought. A new study by Gallup says that people are starting to think that just because Wallmart is putting sod on the roof that everything they do inside is OK and that buyin a new SUV is green as long as it’s a hybrid. Possibly it could be the vivid stories out of every corner of the globe which show vivid large scale ecological devastation, and comparatively I guess some of the US is better than that and other less inhabited areas are being blown to bits.
You cant plug a hole in the dam with bubble gum and paint over it. Whether or not Global Warming was blown out of proportion by the UN and Al Gore for personal profit from the creation of multi billion dollar carbon trading markets I think its indisputable to say if humans have not YET damaged the ecosystem beyond repair – we will soon.
There are unprecedented levels of extinctions occurring just as we are learning about how interconnected the delicate web is. There are trash piles the size of Texas in the pacific ocean. 405 areas ranging from a square kilometer to 70,000 square kilometers in the Ocean have been so polluted by fertilizer agro run that it no longer can support life and is called a “Dead Ocean Zone”. These zones exist in almost every body of water on Earth and are new since 1970. It’s theorized that 90% of all large fish in the sea have been killed.

(Reuters) – Forty-six percent of the 1,014 adults surveyed March 4 to 7 described current U.S. environmental conditions as excellent or good. That was up from 39 percent in March 2009 and was the highest positive environmental rating measured by Gallup since 2002.
The percentage of Americans who say the environment is only fair to poor was down from 61 percent last year.
The year-on-year changes were within the polling data’s 4 percentage point margin of error.
Only 2 percent viewed the environment as the most important problem facing the United States today, while the number who expect it to become the main priority in 25 years slipped slightly to 11 percent.
